Michelangelo Pistoletto: From One to Many, 1956-1974 and are the two Cittadellarte
MAXXI exhibitions, co-produced with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, dedicated to the great Master
Italian, from 4 March to 15 August 2011.
Michelangelo Pistoletto: one to many, 1956-1974, with more than 100 jobs
from public collections and private Italian and American, tells a
of the most important living Italian artists internationally recognized as a key figure in the art
Contemporary, one of the founding members of Arte Povera and
point of reference for the younger generation,
Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale of 2003, the United States
considered a forerunner of the artistic practices of collaborative participation.
Cittadellarte is a focus on the homonymous
Pistoletto creative laboratory founded in 1998 in Biella, where art is made even more networking,
direct interaction with society. The project takes as its starting point
experimental artistic practices undertaken in the sixties which included the
involvement and active participation of the public.
PISTOLETTO MICHELANGELO: FROM ONE TO MANY, 1956 - 1974
The exhibition deals with the artistic life of Pistoletto, a rigorous investigation
on the representation of himself to the development of creative collaborations
that characterize his current research.
The works are arranged in three main groups.
The Mirror Paintings Plexiglass and are displayed together respecting the conceptual grouping
originally intended by the artist. Here the artist portrays
friends, family, acquaintances up to groups of people in the series of Comizi
and Events, which explores the socio-political themes.
Objects less, the rags and the works of the series lights and reflections,
are placed together in a single environment. The Rags, previously used by
Pistoletto polishing his mirrors, exceed the original
and become objects of art: the iconic Venus of the Rags, on display,
can be considered the symbol of Arte Povera.
A separate space is reserved for actions and performance of artists of the theater group
Zoo hosts and props related to performance, video and photographic documentation
.
